These are intended to be used in the production of thin polymer films for FTIR transmission spectroscopy. There are kits available for both low- and high-temperature thin film production.

To create pellets or circular discs for IR-FTIR solid sampling or analytical purposes, utilise the DIE Set for IR-FTIR and XRF, Evacuable KBr Die Set. The most popular die size is 13 mm diameter pellets. A two-piece outer die, tungsten carbide mirror polished punches (envils), pusher rod, and pellet removal ring make up the 13 mm KBr Die. Die is equipped with an evacuation nozzle ( if required ). The die is made of hardened stainless steel and is simple to disassemble for cleaning. To ensure its security and durability, the entire set is housed in a velvet-lined teak-wood box. The maximum load that the die can withstand is 15 tonnes.

All Athena die sets are made of stainless steel that has been hardened to aerospace standards. The larger dies are typically used to produce briquettes for XRF spectroscopy, whereas the smaller dies are utilised to produce KBr pellets for transmission investigation by IR spectroscopy. Most spectroscopists choose the 13mm Macro-Micro die for KBr pellets because it comes with paper inserts with various small holes (1.5, 3, 5, & 11mm) that allow the user to create micro-pellets with a 13mm die set and also serve as a helpful frame for mounting and storing the pellets.
All Athena dies are sealed with viton seals and have an upper and lower stainless steel part for simple dismantling. All die sets in the 13mm to 40mm range now include an exterior shield made of aluminium, reducing weight for convenience of use. As a result of this feature, they are more lighter and easier to handle than two-piece dies manufactured entirely of stainless steel without compromising strength or longevity. To lessen the amount of moisture in the sample, the dies can be evacuated with a vacuum pump.
